TURNING POINTE DANCE STUDIO TO HOST VIRGINIA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS BALLET AUDITIONS IN FALMOUTH - MARCH 10, 2007

Turning Pointe Dance Studio is proud to announce that they will host The Virginia School of the Arts, an internationally recognized program for dancers, Summer Dance Intensive on March 10th beginning at 1:00 pm. The audition, which will be conducted by Sonny Robinson, Ballet Faculty at VSA, is for admission to the school’s 2006 intensive summer sessions as well as the academic year boarding program. The Summer Session is open to dance students ages 11 to 18; the academic year is open to dancers in grades 9-12. Students should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the audition; they should bring two photographs, first arabesque and á la seconde, and the $25 audition fee, payable by check or in cash. Girls should bring pointe shoes.

Sonny Robinson is a former member of Dance Theatre of Harlem and a member of DTB, (Dancing Through Barriers Ensemble) DTH's education and community outreach program. Mr. Robinson has also represented DTH as an teaching artist throughout the New York City public school system. He has trained at the San Francisco Ballet School, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the Kirov Academy in Washington D.C. Mr. Robinson has worked extensively with Urban Ballet Theater as a performer, teacher and ballet master. His teaching credits include Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Virginia School of the Arts Community Dance Program, Henry Street Settlement,Vero Beach Ballet, Centerstage School, Dance Space, and School of Dance Arts in Redbank, New Jersey. Mr. Robinson has performed choreography by artistic luminaries including George Balanchine, Geoffrey Holder, Jerome Robbins, Daniel Catanach, Michael Smuin and John Taras. 

A Turning Pointe Alumnus and Falmouth resident, Abby Fellman, traveled to Richmond, Virginia to audition for the Virginia School of the Arts in 2004. She is currently a student in the Virginia School of the Arts Academic Year Program. The faculty at VSA are very excited to get a glance at the vast talent pool in the Cape Cod area.

Located in the central Virginia city of Lynchburg, the Virginia School of the Arts offers motivated dance students an opportunity to study with the school’s resident faculty along with world-renowned guest teachers. During the VSA Academic Year Program, students study under a highly experienced professional dance faculty in a classically-based program that includes classes in ballet, pointe, men’s technique, pas de deux, repertoire, variations, contemporary, jazz, dance composition, improvisation, and body conditioning.
